In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; (2) when he cried to his Lord in secret. (3) He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. (4) now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, (5) who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' (6) “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” (7) He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" (8) He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." (9) (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." (10) Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. (11) “O Yahya hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) (12) And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, (13) And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. (14) Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. (15)
