Mary (Maryam)
98 verses, revealed in Mecca after Initiator (Faater) before T H (Taa Haa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. (1) Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, (2) Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. (3) He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. (4) I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son (5) one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. (6) [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." (7) He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" (8) (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' (9) Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." (10) Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. (11) (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, (12) And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, (13) And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). (14) Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. (15)
