Juz 17
The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
112 verses, revealed in Mecca after Abraham (Ibrahim) before The Believers (Al-Mu' minoon)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The people's day of reckoning is drawing closer, yet they are heedlessly neglectful. (1) Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord they barely heed it and remain immersed in play, (2) With their hearts occupied (with evil things) those who do wrong, conceal their private counsels, (saying): "Is this (Muhammad SAW) more than a human being like you? Will you submit to magic while you see it?" (3) The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing." (4) Nay, but they say: 'A hotchpotch of nightmares! Nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet! Now therefore let him bring us a sign, even as the ancient ones were sent as Messengers.' (5) There did not believe before them any town which We destroyed, will they then believe? (6) And We did not send (Prophets) before you except men, to whom We sent divine revelations therefore, O people, ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. (7) We did not endow the Messengers with bodies that would need no food; nor were they immortals. (8) Our promise to them came true and We saved them and those whom We wanted, but destroyed the unjust people. (9) We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? (10)
