Light (Al-Noor)
64 verses, revealed in Medina after Exodus (Al-Hashr) before Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A sura which We have sent down and which We have ordained in it have We sent down Clear Signs, in order that ye may receive admonition. (1) (As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement. (2) The fornicator shall not marry any but a fornicatress or idolatress, and (as for) the fornicatress, none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; and it is forbidden to the believers. (3) And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever, they indeed are the Fasiqun (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allah). (4) Unless they repent thereafter and mend (their conduct); for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (5) As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth; (6) And (swear) a fifth time that if he tell a lie the curse of God be on him. (7) The wife shall receive no punishment, if she bears witness four times in the name of God that her husband has lied (8) Her fifth oath being that the curse of God be on her if her husband should be speaking the truth. (9) Had it not been for God's favors and mercy upon you (your life would have been in chaos). God accepts repentance and He is All-wise. (10)
