Hizb 39
Juz 20
To Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, "Serve none but God." But they divided themselves into two factions contending with one another. (45) He said, “O my people, why do you hasten upon the evil before the good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah? Perhaps there may be mercy upon you.” (46) They said: "You betoken evil, and those with you." (Saleh) replied: "The evil you presage can only come from God. In reality you are a people under trial (for your own inauspiciousness)." (47) Now in the city there were nine persons who did corruption in the land, and put not things right; (48) They said: 'Let us swear by Allah to attack him and his family at night, then we will tell his guardian we were not witnesses of the destruction of his family; and surely we are truthful' (49) So they devised a scheme, and We made our secret plan, and they remained neglectful. (50) Then look how was the outcome of their plan - that We destroyed them and their people, all. (51) So those are their houses fallen down because they were unjust, most surely there is a sign in this for a people who know. (52) And We delivered those who believed and were wont to fear. (53) And (remember) Lut when he said to his people, “What! You stoop to the shameful whereas you can see?” (54) Must ye needs lust after men instead of women? Nay, but ye are folk who act senselessly. (55) ۞ But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" (56) So We saved him and his family, except his wife. We destined her to be of those who remained behind. (57) And We rained upon them a rain; ill was the rain upon the warned. (58)
