The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. (1) The Romans have been conquered (2) In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. (3) within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice (4) In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. (5) The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. (6) They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. (7) Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. (8) Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. (9) Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. (10)
