Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
34 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat) before Sheba (Saba)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Alif. Lam. Mim. (1) These are the verses of the Wise Book, (2) A guidance and a mercy for the good, (3) Those who keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and they are certain of the hereafter. (4) They are on guidance from their Lord, and will prosper. (5) But among men there is many a one that prefers a mere play with words [to divine guidance,] so as to lead [those] without knowledge astray from the path of God, and to turn it to ridicule: for such there is shameful suffering in store. (6) When Our revelations are recited to them, they turn back on their heels out of pride as if they did not hear them or their ears had been sealed off. Warn them of the painful torment. (7) Verily those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be Gardens of Delight. (8) Abiding in them; the promise of Allah; (a) true (promise), and He is the Mighty, the Wise. (9) He [it is who] has created the skies without any supports that you could see, and has placed firm mountains upon the earth, lest it sway with you, and has caused all manner of living creatures to multiply thereon. And We send down water from the skies, and thus We cause every noble kind [of life] to grow on earth. (10) Such is the creation of Allah; now show me what, other than Him, created! No, the harmdoers are in clear error. (11)
