S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad. By the Koran, containing the Remembrance -- (1) Those who deny the truth are steeped in arrogance and hostility. (2) How many a nation did We destroy before them! (When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past. (3) They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. (4) Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. (7) “Is the Qur’an which is sent to him, among us?” In fact they are in a doubt concerning My Book; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. (8) Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your, (Muhammad's), Lord, the Majestic and Munificent God? (9) Is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, for them? So would they not just ascend using ropes? (10) [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. (11) To the truth gave the lie aforetime Noah's people, and [the tribe of] Ad, and Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles, (12) and Thamood, and the people of Lot, and the men of the Thicket - those were the parties; (13) Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. (14)
