S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth). (1) But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. (2) How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved! (3) They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar. (4) What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a marvellous thing.' (5) The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. (6) We have heard nothing like this in the latest religion. This is only his own false invention. (7) "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! (8) Do they possess the treasures of your Lord, the Most Mighty, the Great Bestower? (9) Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: (10) [But] there it is: any and all human beings, however [strongly] leagued together, are bound to suffer defeat [whenever they refuse to accept the truth]. (11) Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, (12) And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates. (13) There was not one of those that did not belie the Messengers. Therefore, My retribution was realized. (14)
