Juz 23
S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. (1) Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! (3) It seems strange to the pagans that a man from their own people should come to them as a Prophet. The unbelievers have said, "He is only a lying magician". (4) "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!" (5) Their leaders departed, saying, "Walk away! Hold fast to your deities. This is clearly a conspiracy. (6) Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man's] invention! (7) "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! (8) Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower? (9) Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)! (10) Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. (11) Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, (12) And [the tribe of] Thamud and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket. Those are the companies. (13) None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. (14)
