S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! (1) No, the unbelievers exalt in their division. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they called, but time was none to escape. (3) Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! (4) What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a marvellous thing.' (5) And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended. (6) We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. (7) What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! (8) Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower? (9) Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, theirs? Then let them climb up the ladders (to the heavens). (10) A very host of parties is routed there! (11) The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, (12) And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. (13) None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. (14)
