Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. (1) By oath of the clear Qur’an. (2) behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; (3) Indeed it is transcribed in the Original Book with Us; sublime and full of wisdom. (4) Shall We then (warn you not and) take away the Reminder (this Quran) from you, because you are a people Musrifun (5) And how many a prophet have We sent among the ancients. (6) And there came not to them a prophet but they mocked at him. (7) so We destroyed those who were mightier in courage than they. And the example of the ancients has passed away. (8) And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing." (9) (It is) He who made the earth to be a cradle for you and made in it ways for you, in order that you are guided. (10) Who sent down water in due measure from the sky, then quickened a region that was dead -- So shall We bring you forth -- (11) And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, (12) so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. (13) surely unto our Lord we are turning.' (14) The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. (15)
