Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Clear Book (2) We have made it an Arabic Koran in order that you understand. (3) It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. (4) Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? (5) And how many a prophet We sent among the ancients. (6) but not a Prophet came to them, without they mocked at him; (7) So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there. (8) And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” (9) Who has made for you the earth like a bed, and has made for you roads therein, in order that you may find your way, (10) He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- (11) And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, (12) so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. (13) indeed, to our Lord we are turning' (14) Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! (15)
