Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Clear Book. (2) Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. (3) therein every wise bidding (4) By a command from Us indeed it is We Who send. (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. (7) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, (10) which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, (13) Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." (14) Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. (15) On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (16) ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, (17) "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! (18) and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, (19) And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. (20) If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." (21) Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' (22) (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. (23) “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” (24) How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! (25) And fields and grand palaces! (26) and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! (27) We gave these as an inheritance to other people. (28) And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
