Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim (1) By the Clear Book. (2) We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (3) On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] (4) The command that We have been sending (5) as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. (7) There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. (9) Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10) That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. (11) 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' (12) But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. (15) On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (16) ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, (17) saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. (18) Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. (19) "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. (20) And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" (21) Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. (22) And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; (23) And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. (24) How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. (25) And the cornlands and the goodly sites (26) And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27) Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. (28) And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
