Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HA MIM. (1) By the luminious Book. (2) We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). (3) therein every wise bidding (4) an order from Us. We are ever sending. (5) as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. (7) There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) Nay, but they play in doubt. (9) So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. (11) Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us we now accept faith.” (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. (15) The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure We will indeed take revenge. (16) ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, (17) "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. (18) and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). (19) I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. (20) 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' (21) Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' (22) 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. (23) And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And fields and stately mansions, (26) and good things in which they took delight. (27) Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. (28) And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
