Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. (1) By the clear Book, (2) Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- (3) Therein every wise affair is made distinct, (4) at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] (5) A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. (6) Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. (7) There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. (8) Aye! they're in doubt sporting. (9) WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. (15) On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. (16) ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, (17) Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” (18) "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; (19) I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. (20) And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. (21) But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" (22) "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, (25) and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, (26) And comfort wherein they were amused. (27) We gave these as an inheritance to other people. (28) So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. (29)
