Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. (1) By the Book that makes things clear;- (2) We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. (3) Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom (4) [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] (5) as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. (7) There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. (11) [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. (16) ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, (17) Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, (18) "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. (19) And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. (20) But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." (21) Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. (22) And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; (23) And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And fields and stately mansions, (26) and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! (27) Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. (28) So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. (29)
