The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) in an exposed parchment (3) by the House inhabited (4) and the roof uplifted (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; (7) none can avert that. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) The mountains move and fly away, (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. (18) (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
