The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) In parchment spread open (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) And the lofty roof. (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; (7) there is none to avert it. (8) On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." (16) Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. (24) They will ask each other questions, (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
