The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) and the sea that is full (6) VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: (7) Of it there is no preventer. (8) On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, (18) (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." (19) reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. (23) ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they will advance unto each other asking questions. (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; (27) Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
