The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (of Revelation); (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) In a Scroll unfolded; (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) and the roof uplifted (5) And the swollen sea (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. (18) They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. (21) And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. (22) There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. (23) ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. (25) Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. (26) God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- (27) before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
