The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. (1) by the book (Torah) written (2) On a parchment scroll unrolled, (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) And the lofty roof. (5) and the sea swarming, (6) surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; (7) There is none that can ward it off. (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. (13) (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. (16) Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
