The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, (1) By the book inscribed. (2) In parchment spread open (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) And the roof exalted, (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) And the mountains will fly hither and thither. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) who divert themselves with idle chatter: (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) Is it magic, or you cannot see? (15) Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” (28)
