The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) nor does he speak out of desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) When that which covers covered the lote-tree; (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
