The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) His heart did not falsify what he perceived. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
