The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, (5) and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That indeed is an unfair division -- (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
