The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) then came down close (8) Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. (9) and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. (10) His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11) So will you dispute with him over what he saw? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Is the human to have whatever he fancies? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
