The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; (2) And he speaketh not of his own desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14) by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) What! for you the males and for Him the females! (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
