The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) and taught to him (5) and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; (6) While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. (7) Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
