The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
