The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the declining star, (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. (10) His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! (24) despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? (25)
