The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) and neither does he speak out of his own desire: (3) It is a revelations which has been revealed to him (4) something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) Will you dispute with him what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. (16) The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. (17) Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) What! for you the males and for Him the females! (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he coveteth? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
