In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! (1) How awesome that laying-bare of the truth! (2) And what would make you realize what the sure calamity is! (3) The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. (4) As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the outburst. (5) And as for A’ad, they were destroyed by a severe thundering windstorm. (6) which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. (7) So do you see any survivor among them? (8) Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. (9) They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. (10) And when the waters rose (high) We carried you in the sailing (Ark), (11) That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. (12) Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one), (13) and the earth and the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with a single stroke! (14) And so, that which must come to pass will on that day have come to pass; (15) And the heaven will split asunder, for that Day it (the heaven will be frail (weak), and torn up, (16) And the angels shall be on the borders thereof; and on that Day eight shall bear over them the Throne of thy Lord. (17) On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. (18) So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! (19) Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." (20) Then he shall be in a life well-pleasing (21) In a lofty garden, (22) The fruits of which are near at hand: (23) 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' (24) However, those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their left hands will say, "We wish that this record had never been given to us (25) And knew not what my reckoning! (26) Oh! Would that the death that came to me in the world had made an end of me! (27) My riches have availed me not; (28) "My power has perished from me!"... (29) The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, (30) Then into Hellfire drive him. (31) Fasten a chain to them - seventy cubits long - (32) Verily he was wont not to believe in Allah, the Mighty. (33) And urged not on the feeding of Al-Miskin (the poor), (34) Today he has been left here friendless; (35) neither any food saving foul pus, (36) Which none but sinners eat. (37)
