The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. (1) Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- (2) (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. (3) On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. (4) So persevere with becoming patience. (5) behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away (6) But We see it (quite) near. (7) The day the sky becomes like molten brass, (8) and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. (9) And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, (10) Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. (11) And his wife and his brother, (12) And the family in which he was. (13) and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. (14) By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- (15) that will strip off the scalp. (16) It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, (17) and amassed wealth and hoarded it. (18) ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; (19) When they are afflicted, they complain, (20) And, when good befalleth him, grudging; (21) Except those who establish prayer. (22) [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer (23) those who give a due share of their wealth (24) For the beggar and the destitute; (25) And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. (26) And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- (27) the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, (28) who guard their privates (29) except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, (30) (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), (31) And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive (32) And those who stand firm in their testimonies. (33) and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; (34) It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. (35)
