Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! (1) stand up to pray for much of the night. (2) (a half of it, or diminish a little, (3) or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. (4) Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. (5) Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. (6) surely in the day thou hast long business. (7) Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. (8) (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. (9) And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. (10) Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, (11) Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. (12) And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom (13) (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. (14) Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. (15) However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. (16) How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, (17) The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. (18) Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! (19)
