Juz 29
Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], (1) Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - (2) It may be half the night or a little less than that (3) Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. (4) For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. (5) Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. (6) Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. (7) And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. (8) [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. (9) And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. (10) Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, (11) We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, (12) food that chokes and painful punishment (13) On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. (14) Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. (15) But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. (16) If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? (17) Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. (18) Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. (19)
