The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, (1) Arise and deliver thy warning! (2) And thine Lord magnify! (3) And thine raiment purify. (4) And banish all trepidation. (5) and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. (6) And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. (7) So when the Trumpet will be blown. (8) It will be a day of distress, (9) and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. (10) LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, (12) And sons always present by his side, (13) and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: (14) and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! (15) Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. (16) Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! (17) Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. (18) Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? (19) Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (20) Then he looked around, (21) frowned and scowled; (22) then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, (23) Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; (24) Nothing more than the speech of a man!" (25) [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! (26) And what have you understood, what hell is! (27) It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! (28) . Scorching the skin. (29) Above it are nineteen guards. (30) We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. (31)
