The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, (1) Arise and warn (2) And thine Lord magnify! (3) And your garments purify! (4) and flee from the statues! (5) And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (6) And persevere in the way of your Lord. (7) And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, (8) That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- (9) Not easy upon the disbelievers. (10) LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) And for whom I appointed wealth extended. (12) and sons that stand in witness. (13) and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), (14) Yet he wants that I should give him more. (15) By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: (16) I will cover him with arduous torment. (17) Indeed, he thought and deliberated. (18) So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (19) Again, death seized him, how was his determining! (20) Then he considered [again]; (21) Then he frowned and scowled, (22) Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. (23) He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; (24) This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" (25) Him shall I soon roast in Hell. (26) What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? (27) Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- (28) Burning the skins! (29) Above it are nineteen. (30) And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. (31)
