The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the angels who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers from their bodies, (1) by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), (2) and float [through space] with floating serene, (3) And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). (4) And then they manage the affair, (5) Upon the day when the first blast shivers (6) and the second blast follows it, (7) On that day hearts beat painfully (8) and their eyes will be humbled. (9) [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state (10) even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" (11) [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" (12) Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, (13) When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). (14) Has Moses' story reached you? (15) His Lord called out to him by the sacred valley of Tuwa: (16) Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. (17) Then say thou: wouldst thou to be purified? (18) Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him). (19) So he showed him the great sign, (20) but he belied and disobeyed, (21) Then he quickly turned his back. (22) So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. (23) “I am the supreme lord of you all.” (24) So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First. (25) Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears! (26)
