He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, (1) Because there came to him the blind man. (2) And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. (3) or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? (4) Yet you pay attention (5) Unto him thou attendest. (6) though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. (7) And for him who came to you striving, (8) and fears (Allah), (9) From him you are distracted. (10) Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, (11) and whosoever wills, shall remember it. (12) On honourable pages. (13) Exalted, pure. (14) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (15) noble and most virtuous. (16) Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! (17) From what did He create him? (18) From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, (19) Then eased the way for him. (20) Then He caused him to die and be buried (21) Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. (22) Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (24) How We poured down water in torrents, (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) Then We cause therein the grain to grow, (27) together with grapes and vegetables, (28) And Olives and Dates, (29) and dense-tree'd gardens, (30) and fruits and fodder (31) A provision for you and your cattle. (32) Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), (33) On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, (34) And from his mother and his father, (35) wife and sons, (36) For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy (37) Some faces that Day will be beaming, (38) Laughing, rejoicing. (39) And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, (40) Darkness shall cover them. (41) These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. (42)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
