89 Dawn
Al-Fajr
Juz 30
Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, (1) and the ten nights! (2) by the even, and the odd, (3) Consider the night as it runs its course! (4) Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? (5) ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, (6) of Iram, known for their lofty columns, (7) The like of which were not created in the land? (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, (10) Who terrorised the region, (11) And made therein much mischief. (12) and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: (13) Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." (16) But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, (17) and you urge not the feeding of the needy, (18) And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (19) And you love wealth with much love! (20) By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? (23) He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! (24) But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, (25) And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. (26) O satisfied soul, (27) Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], (28) Join My servants. (29) And enter into My garden. (30)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
