89 Dawn
Al-Fajr
Juz 30
Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn (1) and the ten nights! (2) by the even, and the odd, (3) and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). (4) Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (5) Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? (6) (And) the tall giants of Iram? (7) The like of which was not built in the cities, (8) And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. (9) And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes (10) Who terrorised the region, (11) And multiplied iniquity therein? (12) Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. (13) Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. (14) As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," (15) And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” (16) No! But you show no good to the orphan, (17) Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, (18) and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, (19) And you love wealth with immense love. (20) No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, (21) And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, (22) and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' (24) But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, (25) And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. (26) O you tranquil soul, (27) Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). (28) Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! (29) And come into My Paradise! (30)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
